Very Informative. I heard about this book on the Catholic Channel along with the other books in the series. I just had to read them a
Concise, easy to read, and filled with information on the Mass that is useful for cradle Catholics, students, RCIA, and anyone else who is interested in learning more about why we do what we do in the Mass. Each chapter is a minute snippet. This book can be used to look up something you want to know or read the whole text for greater understanding.
Another great book from Gus Lloyd. These should be required readings for all catholics and should be read by all non Catholics as well. We should all have a better understanding of where our traditions come from.
A quick easy read about the true meaning of the Mass.
Frankly, there is a lot going on in our Mass, which makes it hard for people to understand. So I love the fact that Gus takes the liturgy and breaks it down into small manageable chucks and add the reference guidance for those who want to study further.... something for all.
After reading this book, we Catholics should be well-equipped to explain to our other Christian brothers and sisters, why we love being Catholic.
Concise and engaging giving straight forward information. For many this will be a "review" and for all others a good introduction with references to the Catechism if one wishes to delve deeper. I will be giving this to the Religious Ed teachers in our program as well as family and friends. All the "Minute" books are great stepping off points for further self-study, and the fact that each section is stand alone, makes them great references.
While doing some research over the last few months, I've read dozens of great books of all shapes and sizes about the Holy Mass, and I am very happy to have stumbled across this one -- among the shortest and the sweetest. Gus Lloyd's love for the Mass is contagious. He's done a masterful job of explaining why we should all share his joy in the Mass and in the Eucharist at its heart. Based on one-minute radio spots, these many brief chapters truly can be read in a minute or less each and each one of them packs a wallop. Not only does he seem to hit all the right topics in limited space, but virtually every brief chapter tells you exactly where to go in the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and in easily accessible internet sites so the reader can dig deeper (though I particularly enjoyed one of his more general recommendations too, for the Readings of Mass -- "The whole Bible!")
A Minute in the Church The Mass is both reverent and fun. For example, I wasn't expecting to see a chapter on the parts of Mass entitled, "Doing the Dishes," but there it was, amusing and informative. This book is Gus Lloyd's response to those who say they don't get anything out of Mass or they are "not being fed at Mass." These folks should feast their eyes on this book and then head back to Mass. I would recommend this book to Catholics who feel that way about the Mass, to non-Catholics who would like a very accessible, enjoyable way to learn about the Mass, as well as to those who already cherish the Mass, as a wonderful reminder of just what and why we do the things we do in remembrance of Him and in His very Presence.
